About Chad Smurthwaite
Chad Smurthwaite is a board-certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) who blends hands-on manual therapy with movement-based rehabilitation. He earned two bachelor’s degrees from Warner Pacific University in Portland — one in Human Biology and one in Health and Human Kinetics (2017) — before completing his Doctorate of Physical Therapy at Eastern Washington University in Spokane (2021). He has particular expertise in instrument-assisted soft-tissue mobilization (IASTM), myofascial decompression (MFD), and soft-tissue mobilization.
Chad has a deep passion for treating runners and motivated athletes returning to sport, rooted in his own athletic background — he competed in track and field and cross country at Warner Pacific, racing the middle distances from the 400m to the 1500m, and he remains an advocate for student-athletes through the NAIA. In clinic, he combines a functional, whole-body assessment with hands-on techniques and progressive, movement-based programming to build durable, lasting recoveries.
